The Žaliūkiai Miller's Homestead is an oasis of ethnic culture, traditional customs and entertainment, surrounded by a modern city. Visitors can see the restored Žaliūkiai windmill with its authentic grain-milling equipment and the rebuilt miller's cottage. The restored windmill is the only surviving building of traditional Lithuanian wooden architecture from the second half of the 19th century in Šiauliai, an object of technical heritage and the first museum of grain-processing history in Lithuania. All year round the everyday life of the miller's family goes on at the homestead: grain is milled, bread is baked, and educational activities and tours are held, during which the miller himself introduces the unique mill equipment and the grain-milling process. The most popular educational activity at the Žaliūkiai Miller's Homestead is "Bread Baking". Visitors are also invited to decorate Easter eggs, make Shrovetide masks, bake birthday biscuits and take part in other fun activities. Everyday life at the homestead is enlivened by traditional Lithuanian calendar festivals celebrated together with the town community: Shrovetide (Užgavėnės), Low Sunday (Atvelykis), Midsummer (Kupolinės), the Assumption (Žolinė) and the autumn equinox.
