"Rūta" Chocolate Museum

Not rated yetŠiauliai

Even Brussels, famous for its chocolate industry, might envy a museum like this. The Rūta confectionery factory, which since 1913 has been tempting passers-by with the sweet smells of chocolate, caramel, roasted nuts and simmering berries, opened the doors of its old building to visitors in 2012. It is here, in the old factory building, that the Rūta Chocolate Museum is located. The museum's exhibition presents not only the factory's interesting history but also the secrets and particularities of four thousand years of chocolate consumption. At the museum you will learn where "chocolate trees" grow, how the Maya and Aztecs made chocolate and how the traditions of eating it changed over the centuries. It also tells the story of the first chocolate factories in Lithuania and of Rūta, the longest-operating confectionery factory in the country. There are plenty of interactive activities: you can take a photo and email it, or a sweet wrapper you have designed, to your friends, and play various games. By booking the educational session "Sweet Laboratory", visitors briefly become chocolatiers. After watching the chocolate-making process for a few minutes, participants can try their hand at making chocolate treats themselves and taste them on the spot. For those who want to know more about chocolate and its pairings, themed chocolate and sweet tastings are held. Next to the museum is the historic Rūta sweet shop, located in the premises where the factory's old sweet shop operated between the wars. It offers a wide choice for anyone looking for gifts to take home: chocolates with various fillings, dragées, soufflé and jelly sweets, chocolate figures, sugar-free and organic products, culinary heritage and souvenir sets. After an enjoyable tour, the Rūta café welcomes visitors. It is a good place to relax in pleasant surroundings, sip hot chocolate, acorn coffee or other drinks, taste exclusive desserts or have a snack.
