Kurtuvėnai Regional Park is a hilly land covered with taiga forests, cut by river valleys and adorned with lakes, wetlands and the Svilė springs, the largest in Lithuania. We suggest starting your trip at the Pageluvis lakeland: on the Paraudžiai ridge, more than ten small lakes lie side by side. Such a density of lakes is rare in Lithuania. In a few hours of walking the nature trails you can visit 10 lakes: Bijotė, Geluva, Kurtuva, Šermukšnynas, Raudoniukas, Barsukynas, Dubukas, Širva, Juodežeris and Niauka. The Kurtuva Nature Trail is 19.8 km long (23.3 km as measured with a GPS app). It takes in the Vainagiai and Pageluvis hills, the Kurtuvėnai manor estate, the Kapa hillfort, the multi-trunked linden and maple of Laisvučiai, the Lithuanian Centenary oak grove, the Jautmalkė nature school, the Napoleon pine, the lakes Bijotė, Juodežeris, Geluva, Barsukynas, Dubukas, Širva and Kurtuva, the Pageluvis hillforts, the Zuikiškė oak and linden, the Kurtuvėnai (Švedkapiai) and Gumbučiai burial grounds, and the Living Horse Museum. We'd suggest starting either at Lake Geluva (where the small and large Pageluvis nature trails begin), which has a car park (changing cabins for swimmers and a large mown lawn for picnics or camping), or at the Kurtuvėnai manor estate (a lovely, well-kept setting, with a pitch for campervans if you want to stay a night or several).
