Founded in 1990 by Vanda Kavaliauskienė and named after her, the Cat Museum greets its visitors with joy – cats and a mischievous tomcat called Perlas, known as the "museum director". In the museum's three halls there are cats, cats and more cats… They have come not only from every corner of Lithuania but also from many countries around the world: the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, France, Russia, Taiwan, Switzerland, Portugal and others. The museum's collection is also growing with paintings by well-known artists and works by photographers in which the cat is the indispensable hero. The museum holds educational activities, exhibitions, competitions, birthday parties and afternoons for cat lovers. Near the museum there is also a living corner, home to various exotic animals. Here visitors can see pythons, grass snakes, lizards and other animals. The two different exhibitions complement each other perfectly – thousands of cats can make your head spin, so direct contact with other animals helps you recover from the dizziness. The museum hosts various exhibitions, events and children's birthday parties. The museum is a branch of the Šiauliai Young Naturalists' Centre.
