A dune of soft yellow sand in the middle of a forest is a rather unexpected sight for eyes used to seeing one only by the sea. Around the dune grow delicate low pines and slender birches. According to one theory, the sizeable area of clean white sand in Bartkuškis Forest was left behind by glaciers thousands of years ago; according to another, it was blown together after a forest fire. The swaying dwarf pines here really do bring to mind the sound of the sea.
