Sigutis Obelevičius Botanical Garden in Traupis
The botanical garden in Traupis was started in 1989 on the initiative of biology teacher Sigutis Obelevičius, and for a long time it was the only school botanical garden in Lithuania. In its first 15 years the garden grew five times larger. Next to the school there are collections of perennial flowers, rock gardens, a decorative pool with water plants and more, so the whole school grounds have become a botanical garden. Today more than 12,000 plant species, forms and varieties grow here. Tours come to the garden from all over Lithuania and from abroad, and students – future biologists – have done their practical training here. In August 2025 the garden was named after its founder, Sigutis Obelevičius. It is looked after by the staff of the Kavarskas school multifunctional centre.
