Sculpture "John Lennon"
A sculpture of John Lennon. Let us get ahead of ourselves and say that the musician was not from Lithuania and never even visited Vilnius. But do you have to come from a city to influence it? The people of Vilnius don't think so. And so the bronze sculpture standing on a granite column shows the musician's face with one eye covered by a flower – just as Lennon was captured in a photograph by his friend Robert Whitaker. The sculpture is a sign to us that we are becoming more open to the modern world. It is also a sign to the world that Vilnius is a cosmopolitan city where artists can realise their ideas, because there will always be room here for important symbols. Besides, John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono belonged to the Fluxus movement, whose founder was none other than the Lithuanian George Maciunas (Jurgis Mačiūnas). Not only do famous people of the world inspire Vilnius residents – Vilnius residents inspire them too.
