Sculpture "City Gate Guard"
Not rated yetVilnius
It is no secret that in the Middle Ages Vilnius was surrounded by a wall that the townspeople began building in 1503 to defend themselves from the threat of Tatar raids. But did you know that one of the nine city gates, where guards were always on duty, stood exactly at the junction of Trakų and Pylimo streets? That is why the sculpture "City Gate Guard" by the famous sculptor Stanislovas Kuzma appeared here. At first the sculpture was wooden; it was made in copper after Lithuania regained independence, when the Columns of Gediminas were added to it.
