As early as the 16th century the Danė embankment was lined with warehouses, as the oldest view of the city, dated 1535, shows. In the early 17th century brick houses and warehouses stood on Žvejų Street. In the first half of the 20th century the warehouse at Žvejų 12 was known as the "Germania-Speicher" (Germany warehouse). The neighbouring warehouse at Žvejų 8 was called the "Dange-Speicher" (Danė warehouse). It can be assumed that in the second half of the 19th century, because of their similar architecture, townspeople called the warehouses the Two Brothers. The names of Klaipėda's warehouses have deep traditions. In the 18th–19th centuries the Hermes, Leopard, Three Roofs, Great, Charles, Green and other warehouses were known in Klaipėda.
