Monument to a United Lithuania „Arka“

Not rated yetKlaipėda

„Arka“ (The Arch) is an 8.5 m high monument weighing about 150 tonnes, unveiled on 8 August 2003 to mark the 80th anniversary of the Klaipėda region joining Lithuania and the 85th anniversary of the Act of Tilsit. The smaller red granite column symbolises Lithuania Minor, the grey one Greater Lithuania, and the seemingly broken-off top recalls the Königsberg (Kaliningrad) region. The monument bears the words of writer Ieva Simonaitytė: „We are one nation, one land, one Lithuania!“. It was created by National Prize laureates sculptor Arūnas Sakalauskas, architect Ričardas Krištapavičius and structural engineer Tautvydas Tubis.
