Lake Druskonis Shore
The shore of Lake Druskonis is one of the most beautiful places to relax in Druskininkai. The lake covers 7.5 ha. Legend has it that in ancient times the family of Jonas Druskis lived here, and that is where the lake's name comes from. A few centuries ago, this little lake, which greeted the resort's first guests after a tiring journey, meant that they had finally reached their destination. The street running above the southern shore of the lake is the main historic road from Grodno. Century-old pines, already shown on 19th-century postcards, rustle along the shore and are lit up after dark. On the northern shore of the lake stands the Druskininkai City Museum building with its impressive terrace, and on the other shore are the Old Town Cemetery and the Soviet Soldiers' Cemetery. In summer the flower beds are a delight and a fountain offers pleasant coolness. In the warmer months you can row a boat or take a pedal boat out on the lake. The lakeshore is good for cyclists, runners and walkers.
