Klaipėda Sculpture Park
This open-air gallery of modern Lithuanian sculpture was founded back in 1977. Today the 10-hectare park displays about 116 sculptures by 67 sculptors. In 1820 the city's central cemetery was opened on this site, so the park contains a memorial to those who were buried here until 1944. The insurgents who fell in the battle for the incorporation of Klaipėda into Lithuania are buried here. In the park you will also find an obelisk memorial erected in 1925, an authentic demarcation (border) post that once separated Lithuania Minor from Lithuania Major. For visitors the park is a great place to walk in the footsteps of Klaipėda's history from the 19th to the first half of the 20th century (the grave of J. L. Wiener, the memorial to the 1923 revolt, Second World War memorial sites, the memorial to those who did not return from the sea, and more), and also to relax in the embrace of nature and art.
