The main works on the Jurakalnis Geological Nature Trail were completed at the end of 2012. Thanks to this trail, the cultural and natural heritage sites have become even more accessible to visitors: the surroundings were tidied up, a wooden boardwalk was laid, trees and shrubs were cleared and shaped, and small landscape structures were installed. Starting at the Simonas Daukantas Museum, this modern footpath winds to the Jurakalnis ravine outcrop and spur, taking in the Papilė I hillfort, a viewing platform and tower, and offering opportunities to kayak on the Venta River and enjoy yourself surrounded by beautiful nature. At the time, it was hoped that visitors would eventually be able to reach the Augustaičiai mill along this trail. The project is also very important for protecting natural assets and cultural heritage, because the Venta Landscape Reserve of Venta Regional Park contains exceptional Lithuanian natural and cultural values: the Jurakalnis ravine outcrop and spur, unique in the Baltic region, the Papilė outcrop, the first and second Papilė hillforts, the fifteen-trunked linden, the Simonas Daukantas Memorial Museum together with his monument and grave, St Joseph's Church and more.
