Žagarė Esker Nature Trail

An esker is a long, narrow ridge of sand and gravel left behind by retreating glaciers. The Žagarė esker is one of the most impressive in Lithuania, because it rises above the flat plains of northern Lithuania. You can get to know the natural treasures of the area on the 3.6 km nature trail laid out here, which leads past Žvelgaitis hillfort, the esker and a lake, and along the banks of the Švėtė river. The sandy slopes of the esker are a great place to watch insects digging their burrows.
