Vilnius University Botanical Garden in Kairėnai
This is a real treasure trove of flora! About 9,000 plants are grown in the Vilnius University Botanical Garden in Kairėnai. Some of them are familiar to us, but you will certainly also discover some that will carry your thoughts to the remotest corners of the earth. Kairėnai also has a garden laid out on the principles of a Japanese stroll garden. In summer, open-air concerts are often held in Kairėnai. Also of interest in the botanical garden are the charming surviving buildings of Kairėnai Manor and the old park with its ponds. Contemporary achievements can be seen in the Green Building, powered by geothermal heating and solar collectors, whose terrace gives visitors a view of the garden. The botanical garden also has two permanent orienteering courses (1.4 and 3.3 km long). Kairėnai is some distance from the city centre, so it is worth planning to spend at least a couple of hours here.
