At the end of Verkių Street, opposite the allotment gardens, stands the Staviškiai (or Naujieji Verkiai) hill fort, dating from the 1st millennium. It was built up in the southern part of a separate hill. The slopes of the hill fort are steep, 10 m high and overgrown with trees and shrubs. The summit is triangular and elongated from north to south. At its northern edge there is a plateau 50 m long and 40 m wide, with a centre a metre higher than the edges. In 2000 the Staviškiai hill fort was tidied up and steps were built on its slope. On the eastern edge of the hill fort stands a sculpture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, erected in 1928 at the expense of Kajetan Bartoszewicz and renovated in 2000. In 1995 the Staviškiai hill fort was investigated by archaeologist Valdas Vainilaitis, but no cultural layer was found.
