Next to the old bridge over the Nevėžis river in Miežiškiai, the "Valley of Angels" has appeared. The cultural event area got this name because as many as eight angels have "settled" here. On his way to church, the Miežiškiai parish priest, Fr Rimantas Visockis, often used to stop at this spot. It was he who had the idea that something beautiful, extraordinary and uplifting should be created here. The priest shared his view with the elder, Juozas Bartulis, a man close to the church. The Miežiškiai community and the culture centre also agreed that the area needed a change. The woodcarvers who were invited gladly took up the idea of beautifying the valley by placing several "guardian angels" here for the people of Miežiškiai and everyone who comes to admire the spot. The sculptors who worked in Miežiškiai say that it was not the creation of separate individual works but the joint realisation of one idea that perfectly reflects the atmosphere of the "Valley of Angels". None of the craftsmen were professional sculptors – they were self-taught – yet for many of them woodcarving has become their only occupation and source of income. This is how attractive swings, benches with sculptures and other wooden works came into being. At one end of a wooden bench an ear is carved, into which you can speak your opinions or wishes. At the other end is a carved ear that checks whether the truth is being told. Later the valley gained five more oak sculptures – angels with their wings spread wide. By the river stand an impressive sculpture symbolising Noah's Ark and a gazebo. It has become a lovely tradition for newlyweds to visit the "Valley of Angels" after their church wedding, as if to reaffirm their vows of love and faithfulness in a wonderful corner of nature. The "Valley of Angels" is truly an oasis of beauty and goodness in Miežiškiai.
