The Miežiškiai Christmas Tree Toy Museum began in 2010. The village librarian, Violeta Karklytė, came up with the idea of holding an exhibition called "Remembering the Christmas Tree of Childhood" and invited the people of Miežiškiai to donate old Christmas tree decorations and other festive items. Within two months about 200 different decorations, garlands and other exhibits had been donated. The collection keeps growing – in 2026 it held more than 4,000 old Christmas items: garlands, masks, dominoes, Grandfather Frosts, Snow Maidens, artificial trees, snowflakes, and decorations made of plastic, metal, cardboard, paper, foil, tubes and beads. The exhibition features Lithuanian, German, Ukrainian and Russian tree decorations and Christmas items. Most of the exhibits were made in Russia. The oldest decorations are made of cotton wool and date from 1930–1950. The others date from up to around 1980. The themes of the decorations are very wide-ranging: fairy tales and their heroes, nature, animals, festive symbols. Some of the decorations reflect the political and economic situation of the time when they were made. For example, the collection includes a star-shaped tree topper made from a glass medical flask. It was created at a time when materials for making decorations were scarce, and almost anything that came to hand was used. The museum was set up in a building that belonged to the Miežiškiai residents' community. In early 2025 the museum was closed because of the dangerous state of its floors; in 2026 the building was repaired and the exhibits were returned to new display cases. The museum runs three educational programmes under the title "Fairy-Tale Christmas": "Santa Claus", "Christmas Cards" and "Straw Christmas Tree Decorations". The programmes are for groups of 5 or more and last from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Advance registration is required.
