Street of Painted Shutters
Rokiškis is the only town in Lithuania that can call itself a town of painted shutters. The houses on the main street are decorated with shutters. The idea of reviving the tradition of house decoration came to the artist Arūnas Augutis in 2003, and in 2005 shutter painting became a project, and shutter-painting plein-air sessions have been held every year since. Artists from all over Lithuania and neighbouring countries take part in the plein-air sessions. More than 300 shutters have been painted during the plein-air sessions. Painted shutters adorn houses on Respublikos, Kauno, Kęstučio, Ąžuolų, Sodų, Vilniaus and Mikėno streets in the town of Rokiškis, as well as in the villages of Jurgiškiai, Kamajai, Antakriaunis, Bajorai, Salos and Šetekšnos in the Rokiškis district.
