Sculpture "Alumnatas Elephants"

A chessboard on the heads of little elephants – this is the sculpture you will find in a deep Old Town courtyard looking onto the courtyard of the Presidential Palace. The "Alumnatas Elephants" were made of white cement in 1985 by sculptor Vytenis Jankūnas. The unusual chessboard is there on purpose – at the time a chess club operated in the neighbouring building, and it was the club that commissioned the sculptor to create an outdoor chess table.
