The Šaukliai boulder field stands out for its unique, tundra-like landscape, unusual for our region, and the nature trail with an observation tower and information signs introduces its distinctive plants and wildlife. The Šaukliai boulder field is one of the largest boulder fields in Lithuania and lies within the Šaukliai Landscape Reserve. It is a natural 79-hectare area shaped by the last Ice Age, also known as the Lithuanian tundra, where stones 0.3–1 m or even 3 m in diameter lie fairly evenly spread in their original position. Among them grow very lush, tall junipers of all shapes, up to 6 m high, forming whole thickets. The area has been designated a Natura 2000 site important for habitat protection, as it contains natural habitats of European importance: heaths, juniper scrub and species-rich mat-grass grasslands. Here and there among the stones, in damper hollows, rare plants listed in the Red Data Book of Lithuania bloom. Part of the boulder field is fenced off because a herd of mouflons has been introduced to graze there for nature management purposes. You can enter the enclosure via special stairs built over the fence. Next to the boulder field there is a resting spot, and by the pond a recreation area with leisure facilities.
