Poetry Park is a 4.36-hectare park at the confluence of the Šešupė and the Jevonis. Until the Second World War this was land belonging to the Marian monastery, with pastures, an orchard, vegetable gardens and greenhouses. Work on the park began in 1984: the Jevonis stream was cleaned, fountains, decorative footbridges and benches were installed, and Julius Narušis's sculpture "Šešupė" was put up. The park got its name in 1986, when the national "Poetry Spring" festival came to it. After the 2012 reconstruction, water became the main feature – the Šešupė channel was opened up and fountains and lighting were added. About a hundred species of trees and shrubs grow in the park, and there is an amphitheatre for small events, a children's playground and another sculpture by J. Narušis, dedicated to Vytautas Kernagis's song "Kai sirpsta vyšnios Suvalkijoj" ("When the Cherries Ripen in Suvalkija").
