A 3.5 km botanical (nature) trail has been laid out by Lake Lūšiai, which you can walk or cycle. It's a chance to get to know the varied plant life of the National Park better: you'll see about 150 plant species, 9 of which are listed in the Red Data Book of Lithuania. At practically any time of year you can enjoy picturesque views of forest, meadows, lakes and bogs. Part of the trail has a wooden surface, and in wetter spots there are small bridges, footbridges out into the lakes, and rest areas. On the way you'll visit not only Lake Lūšiai but also several smaller, charming lakes hidden among the forests. As the trail winds along the slopes and foot of a large hill, you'll have to tackle a few steeper stretches. You'll walk through a beautiful, airy forest with plenty of space between the trees and can try to find hidden inland dunes. You'll wade through a real bent-grass meadow and reach a stretch where a real reed jungle rises on both sides of the path. Among the more interesting plants you may find bogbean, peat-bog violets, cat's-foot, cinquefoils and many other species, which are truly abundant here. If you come in the second half of summer, you may also find bilberries and other berries, as well as mushrooms, along the way. Although the trail is meant for discovering plants, it's interesting for its wildlife too. Along the way you can see a "bat house" and a bird of prey's nest, watch toads "mating" and spot the black woodpecker, the largest woodpecker in Lithuania. Varied as it is, the route isn't difficult and the directions are marked, and if you also have the leaflet with a map from the Tourist Centre, walking the trail will be a pure pleasure, especially since everything here is natural and genuine. The walk should take about 1.5–2 hours, and it suits families with older children, groups of friends and seniors who haven't lost their joy of life.
