Klaipėda Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in Lithuania, first lit on 1 September 1796; it was one of the first lighthouses on the north-eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. Standing about 500 m from the sea, its light shines 44 m above sea level and can be seen up to 33 km away. This historic navigation structure is still in operation, guiding ships into the Port of Klaipėda, so it is admired from the outside.
