The bog is fed only by precipitation and surface water and contains very few minerals. That is why only plants that like a very acidic environment grow here: bog myrtle, heather, bog bilberry (known as "drunkard's berry"), peat moss, cotton grass and cranberries. A wooden boardwalk has been built across the bog, letting you see the plants growing here up close. The boardwalk is only about 0.5 km long.

Getting there
GurakalnėMolėtai District MunicipalityDirections
Getting there by carDriving from Dubingiai towards Joniškis (not the Joniškis most people know), after a kilometre or two there is a right turn signposted to the "Dubingiai" seminar and leisure centre. When you reach the "Dubingiai" recreation area, you will see signs, one pointing towards the Liudgardas slope and the other towards Gurakalnė bog. Turn right and walk a few hundred metres until the bog comes into view on the left after a bend.
