A huge moose gleaming with gold and many other unique metal sculptures, museums of vintage motorcycles and of antlers, and large grounds criss-crossed by paths – you can find all this at Golden Deer Manor (Auksinio elnio dvaras). Golden Deer Manor is the lovely name of a rural tourism homestead in the village of Rapaliai, Telšiai district. It is not a real manor of the kind we are used to, with a history of several hundred years and old buildings. The homestead is set in a picturesque spot in Samogitia. It belongs to one family, who have created a beautiful place to visit here, where it is interesting to look around and, if you wish, to rest and stay overnight by booking accommodation. The strongest impression is left by the large sculptures scattered all over the grounds, many of them taller than a person. The sculptures are made of metal, and many seem to be assembled from countless parts and tiny pieces. A big moose shining with gold, propping up the sky with its broad antlers, Pippi Longstocking with her little monkey friend on her shoulder, a basketball player about to sink the ball, a rider jumping over a fence and many other sculptures stand on the grounds of the homestead. Golden Deer Manor is not one of those places you can pass by on your way somewhere else or drop into briefly after spotting a brown sign by the road. You need to plan a trip specially, but it is definitely worth doing, especially if you are exploring Samogitia and the surroundings of Telšiai district.
