Džiuginėnai Manor

Not rated yetDžiuginėnai

Small, wooden and cosy, Džiuginėnai Manor quietly lives out its days. In 1864–1866 our famous writer Žemaitė worked here as a young woman in service, and three tall, old larches grow in its yard – and not by chance. When Zigmantas Kazimieras's daughter Vanda Teresė married the Warsaw doctor Seweryn Fabian Perkowski, the manor passed to the noble Perkowski family. They raised three children: a daughter, Jadwiga Elżbieta, and twins, Józef and Tadeusz. Their births are marked by the three old larches in the manor yard. These trees are now each more than a hundred years old. The Džiuginėnai manor site has been known for a long time, since the 16th century. In 1791 Džiuginėnai was bought by Liudvikas Baltramiejus Gorskis, a cavalry captain (rotmistrz) of the Duchy of Samogitia. After him, the manor was inherited by his children. Until 1939 the manor was one of the best-kept aristocratic residences in Samogitia. At the beginning of the 20th century there was a small primary school here. In 1940 the manor was nationalised, and now it is once again protected and looked after. Before travelling to Džiuginėnai Manor, we recommend getting in touch using the phone number provided.
