In 2000 the Gelgaudiškis nature trail was opened in the Panemunė Regional Park. It runs through the manor park over hilly terrain near the Nemunas. The trail is 2.5 km long. It starts at the Gelgaudiškis manor palace and turns into the old manor park. Along the trail you can see the "Star" – a clearing from which rides (paths) have been cut precisely in the eight compass directions. Legend has it that the manor owners used to dine here during hunts and ordered the rides to be cut so that they could see the game. The trail leads past the legend-shrouded "Assessor's Grave", the "Devil's Hill", the Barons' Cemetery and a spring, and from one viewing platform there is a view of Panemunė Castle (best seen when the trees have shed their leaves). On the trail you can get to know the silver maples, larches, red horse chestnuts, beeches and other trees growing in the park; there are campfire sites, rest spots, sculptures and footbridges. Easy access.
