Jonas Laumė, a resident of Būginiai, built a replica of Gediminas Castle, scaled down dozens of times, on his own land. While digging ponds, he piled up the excavated clay into a fairly high mound reaching seven metres. Then, working from photographs, he set about building Gediminas Castle. To build it, J. Laumė used 3,000 bricks from old demolished farm buildings and half a tonne of cement. The work cost about 4,000 litas. The Gediminas Castle in Būginiai is octagonal, with seven openings, and is 3 metres high. You can climb the mound by wooden steps. Time has taken its toll – the castle's creator has passed away. But his son Donatas Laumė continues the work his father began. This treasure is on private property. Please be courteous.
