The Church of St Teresa in Vilnius Old Town is full of curiosities. Come closer and you will probably hear women speaking Polish and Lithuanian gathered by the sculpture of the Crucified Christ. Look at his feet. They are a little faded, aren't they? These are feet worn by the kisses of the faithful. That is not the only interesting fact often unknown to passers-by. The Church of St Teresa is the first towerless Baroque monument in Lithuania. Its square four-tier bell tower is topped by a weathervane – a little angel with a trumpet. It is not only incredibly sweet but also the only weathervane of its kind adorning a church in Lithuania. Those interested in art will surely appreciate the vivid synthesis of artistic styles in the church interior and the impressive main altar. At its top stands a large cross with a wooden figure of Christ. Fine, everyone who drops in can notice that, but not everyone knows that beneath this chapel lie the coffins of the Pociej family, and that for a time the heart of Józef Piłsudski, the Polish head of state who died in Warsaw, was kept in this church.
