Bijotai–Širvintas Forest Nature Trail
Trail length: 3.5 km, loop trail. The trail shows a great variety of forests: dry pine forest with junipers, a group of century-old oaks, a dark hornbeam grove and a damp black alder wood. In a woodland key habitat, where no economic activity takes place, fallen trees lie where they were left to rot. In the transitional bog, bogbean, marsh cinquefoil, common cranberry and round-leaved sundew bloom. In spring and autumn you can watch flocks of migrating waterfowl on the open waters of Lake Dusia. The trail is marked with green and white stripes on tree trunks, and there are information signs at the most interesting spots. Walking clockwise is recommended. You can go on your own or book a guided tour in advance with a regional park directorate guide. Directorate specialists run educational sessions for schoolchildren on the trail: "Through Forests and Bogs Between the Lakes", "The Bog Ecosystem" and "Discovering Forest Ecosystems – Herbaceous Plants". The trail forks 350 metres from the start. Taking the right-hand branch gives you a shorter, 2.9 km route.
