ALPAKOS TRAKAI is the first alpaca farm and breeding stud in Lithuania. The first alpacas arrived at the farm from Chile in October 2011. They were the first five females of various colours: white Čilė, silver Lily, chestnut Kaštonė, white Dėmelė with a brown spot, and cream Šampanė. The first young were born in July 2012. The farm now has 20 huacaya females of various colours and two breeding males – the brown lead male Romeo and the young white male Patriotas, born on the farm, with particularly fine and dense fleece. The alpacas raised here have very fine fleece: even in adults the fibre is 14 to 18 microns thick, which falls into the "BABY ALPACA" category. The fleece is shorn by hand every year and processed without any cleaning agents, dyes or other chemicals. The alpaca yarn comes only in natural colours and is not dyed; the fleece is carded with original old-fashioned carders, and the yarn is spun by hand on original spinning wheels. The yarn is lovingly hand-spun by Lithuanian women who still remember the old spinning traditions. Tours of the alpaca farm are organised. There are also educational tours for adults who want to be in direct touch with nature, take a break from the rush, forget stress, spend time outdoors, touch soft alpaca fleece and learn something new about these wonderful animals. On the tours you will find out where alpacas come from and how the first ones came to Lithuania, what makes these animals special, what they eat and how they communicate with each other; you will see 100% alpaca yarn and be able to buy some. You will also be able to interact directly with these lovely animals – touch them, stroke them and hand-feed them with safe feed we have specially prepared for animals. You will have the chance to walk the alpacas on a lead and take some impressive photos.
