Vingis Park is a favourite place among Vilnius residents for walking, cycling and rollerblading. Various events, such as concerts and celebrations, take place at the open-air stage in the centre of the park. In 1988 Sąjūdis rallies were held at the stadium next to the stage, and in 1993 Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass here. The stage here has seen not only Lithuanian performers – world-famous stars have also given concerts here. It is so pleasant to relax in the park surrounded by nature and immerse yourself in the music of a concert, or to spend time with friends. During the day both young and older people often gather here simply to rest and sit on the grass. The park comes alive in summer: in the warmer months its centre has children's rides, several cafés, a sports equipment rental point and a small zoo. There are two entrances to Vingis Park: from M. K. Čiurlionio Street and from Birutės Street. Nearby, as you come from M. K. Čiurlionio Street, stands a classicist chapel, and next to it is a German military cemetery.
