Vilnius Japanese Garden

5.01 reviewVilnius

Area: 4.9 ha. The Vilnius Japanese Garden is a stroll garden (Japanese kaiyū-shiki-teien) laid out on an area of almost 5 hectares. It opened to visitors in April 2023. The idea of creating a Japanese garden arose in 2013. Its vision was prepared by the renowned Japanese landscape architects Shiro Nakane and Yukihiro Nakane, father and son: the garden follows the philosophy of Japanese gardens and Shiro Nakane's concept, with the features characteristic of a traditional Japanese garden. The paths are customarily walked clockwise. At the centre of the garden lies the so-called Šnipiškės pond, which formed in an old bed of the Neris after the Ice Age; you can also view it from a pontoon bridge. Here you will find a dry garden and a dry river, a waterfall and cascades, a red arched bridge, an avenue of cherry trees, a gazebo, a children's playground and information boards that help you recognise the elements of a Japanese garden. The garden is not only a leisure space for the people of Vilnius but also a place to get to know Japanese culture.
