This is a state-protected geological natural monument, declared protected in 2007 to preserve the Quaternary and Neogene rocks exposed here. The Šlavė valley is the only place in Lithuania, the Baltic states and Scandinavia where deposits of the oldest interglacial, named after Šlavė, have been found. The outcrop is 19 m high and 66 m long. Formations of three geological systems – the Devonian, Neogene and Quaternary – have formed on the slopes of the Šlavė valley. Deposits from the pre-glacial Quaternary, when a glacier began to form in the Scandinavian mountains, are also found here.
