Sculpture "Lithuanian Hound"
5.01 reviewVilnius
Deep in the park at the foot of Gediminas Castle Hill live three dogs. Don't be alarmed – they are neither lost, nor homeless, nor wild. This is a sculpture placed in the park to honour the only Lithuanian dog breed – the Lithuanian Hound. Its authors, Rimantas Keturka and Feliksas Volčakas, tried to match the real Lithuanian Hound breed standard perfectly. The Lithuanian Hound breed was developed from various groups of local dogs used for hunting in Lithuania since ancient times. Written sources say that people in Lithuania already hunted with hounds in 1566. In the Middle Ages everyone considered it an honour to keep a pack of these dogs on their estate.
