Pakalniškiai Nature Trail

The trail winds along the Kaunas Reservoir, with the towers of Pažaislis Monastery visible on the other side. The very start of the trail by the road in Vaišvydava is marked by an information board. You can leave your car in the "Maxima" and "Iki" supermarket car parks. Near the trail there are several restaurants and eateries offering takeaway food. This nature trail runs for 3.4 km along the Kaunas Reservoir and Girionys Park. It starts near the Pakalniškiai hillfort and ends at Girionys Park. The trail crosses the Girionys erosional hills, which look very much like hillforts. The Pakalniškiai Nature Trail winds now away from the reservoir, now back towards the water, letting you admire panoramas of the Kaunas Reservoir. From several viewpoints you can even spot the towers of Pažaislis Monastery rising on the other side of the reservoir. The trail is marked with green stripes painted on the trees, so it won't be hard to stay on the right path and not lose the route. Along the Pakalniškiai Nature Trail you'll find many information boards with extensive, clear information about Girionys forest, the trail itself and the plants found along it.
