This unusual experimental museum for the blind is located in the crypts of the Church of St Michael the Archangel (the Garrison Church). The museum's idea is sensory experience and the ways it is expressed (hearing, smell, touch). In this underground space visitors experience fear, an adrenaline rush and self-doubt. The museum consists of eight different parts: the ford, the burrow, the garden, the first threshold, the boundary, the second threshold, fragments and memory. The exhibition is completely invisible – visitors can only feel it through their senses of hearing, touch and smell. According to R. Antinis, visitors to the museum have to push their way past hanging objects and elastic bands, and through spaces of sounds, smells and fingertip touch. Information for visitors is provided in Braille as well as in ordinary signs and inscriptions. Sighted visitors can also try to get through the labyrinths of the "21st-Century Catacombs". The museum was founded in 2005. It was created by Lithuanian and foreign students, led by the sculptor and National Prize laureate Robertas Antinis, during the international exchange project "21st-Century Catacombs" organised by the Kaunas University of Technology Students' Union.
