The Dumsiai dune is reached via the Gaižiūnai nature trail, which winds about two kilometres there and back. Information boards along the trail introduce visitors to the vegetation around them and the birds found here. There are benches on the Dumsiai dune. Although they are quite old, it is still comfortable to sit on them, stay a little longer surrounded by sand and look around. Near the start (and end) of the Gaižiūnai nature trail there is also the Bunkeris viewing platform – a kind of raised stand about ten steps high, from which you can look down a little on a forest road junction and on what seems to be a meadow, now turned into a clearing, opposite.

Getting there
Dumsių giria, DumšiaiJonava District MunicipalityDirections
Getting there by carFrom Vilnius you can drive in from the Rukla side and leave heading towards Šveicarija. Whichever way you come, you will have to rattle along five or six kilometres of unpaved roads. On the Rukla side, drivers of cars will have to dodge potholes and protect the underside of the car, while towards Šveicarija the gravel road is wide but so heavily corrugated that you will have to slow right down.
