Church of St Francis of Assisi (Bernardine Church)
This building seems to stand patiently like a big brother while everyone admires the tiny Gothic St Anne's Church. But the Church of St Francis of Assisi, or simply the Bernardine Church, is no less interesting, and its true beauty is hidden inside. Legend has it that the monks' sermons here drew crowds. If you drop in, you will see that the legend lives on. The Bernardine parish is very large and strong. It has a choir and a library, volunteers gather here, exhibitions of photography, painting and other visual arts are held, and every Sunday Mass is celebrated in sign language. Bernardine bands perform in the loft almost 17 metres up, and in the church itself music sounds not only at services but at concert Masses too. At Christmas you can visit the living nativity scene, where Valentinas the donkey and 3 lovely sheep delight the children.
