Beauty Spring

The Beauty Spring is the saltiest and deepest spring in Druskininkai, known for its skin-cleansing and rejuvenating properties. The spring, flowing from a stone bas-relief next to the Nemunas, is more than 300 metres deep. The spring water is very salty and drinking it is not advisable. You can use the water to wash your face and hands or to gargle. It is believed to rejuvenate the skin and give beauty and vitality. Legend has it that long ago a duke out hunting with his courtiers happened to come to this place. The hunt was going well, so the duke was obliged to shoot a falcon. Pierced by the marksman's accurate arrow, the falcon fell into the Nemunas, and the duke rushed into the water to retrieve it. On the bank, the duchess wept bitterly and ran along the riverbank, shedding salty tears and calling for her husband. After a while the duke emerged from the water with the falcon in his hands – safe and sound. According to the legend, salt springs gushed from the ground in the places where the duchess's tears had fallen.
