This is the steep right-hand slope, almost 15 m high, washed out by the Varius stream. The outcrop runs for about 26 m along the stream. The Quaternary deposits of the Varius outcrop are characterised by sediments pushed and folded by a glacier. Spore and pollen analysis suggests that the carbonaceous quartz sand at the bottom of the outcrop was laid down in the Early Miocene (about 5 million years ago), while the white quartz sand above it, which contains no pollen, was deposited much later – in the Late Pleistocene (about 12,000 years ago) or even at the beginning of the Quaternary (the current period of the Earth's development). It is a geological natural heritage site.
