Ūla Eye Spring

4.01 reviewMarcinkonys

The Ūla Eye is a spring on the terrace of the left bank of the Ūla River. The Ūla Eye lies in a hollow 4.4 m long and 3.4 m wide. It is 4 m above the level of the river and 1.2 m deep. The water rises from deep inter-moraine aquifers and is under considerable pressure. Sand lifted by the strong flow of water constantly bubbles in it. People say the water is as clear as a teardrop. It contains about 120 mg/l of dissolved minerals. The water is fresh, soft and odourless, but has a faint taste of iron. Compared with the drinking-water standard, it contains 1.3 times more manganese and twice as much iron. From the spring the water flows along a small 67 m long stream that meanders parallel to the Ūla for a while, then turns west and trickles into the river. Local residents drink the spring water and also believe it helps against all ailments – especially when drawn just after sunset. Near the Ūla Eye there is a viewing platform with a lovely view.
