A serpentine is a very winding stretch of mountain road. Lithuania's only serpentine – which, of course, matches mountain serpentines in neither height nor length – is in Tuputiškės, on a wooded stretch of Žiedų Street in Pavilniai Regional Park. This section of road, climbing steeply uphill with sharp bends, connects Lower Pavilnys with Upper Pavilnys. The Tuputiškės serpentine was added to the list of cultural heritage objects in 1997. The cobbled mountain road was laid at the beginning of the 20th century to Lower Pavilnys, a railway workers' settlement whose construction began in 1908. Until the early 20th century Tuputiškės was sparsely populated. In 1912 land was taken from the Tuputiškės farmstead for the Vilnius railway workers' colony.
