Kruonis Gravity Hill

Here an optical illusion makes you roll uphill, even though it looks the other way round. The gravity hill is next to the Kruonis Pumped Storage Power Plant, very close to the Maisiejūnai hillfort. Anyone can try out this strange phenomenon here: as you drive towards the gate at the bottom of the hill, it seems you are going downhill, but if you stop the car and put it in neutral, the car starts rolling backwards – up the hill. Nobody has managed to solve this riddle of nature; most likely it is simply an optical illusion. One of the main factors creating the illusion is a hidden horizon. Without a horizon it is very hard for people to judge what is level, because there is nothing reliable to compare against.
