Kėdainiai Old Town

Kėdainiai Old Town is a state-protected urban monument, one of seven in Lithuania. Many valuable buildings with Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classicist features survive in the Old Town, along with four 15th–17th-century market squares and the historic street network. The town's history dates back to 1372, when the name Kėdainiai was first mentioned in the Livonian chronicle of Hermann of Wartberge. Until the 16th century the town grew and developed spontaneously; in the 16th century it began to be planned in line with the Wallach Reform. Kėdainiai Old Town is an open-air museum telling the rich history of the town and of Lithuania. There is no cheap imitation here – only what is authentic, real and true, what has come down to us from past centuries.
