Dendrological Nature Trail
In the old-growth forest of Juodkrantė you'll find a 1.6 km dendrological nature trail. It starts next to the wooden "Sound Catcher", which looks like a giant megaphone: climb inside and enjoy newly discovered sounds of nature that we rarely hear with the naked ear when walking in the forest. Another landmark for the start of the trail is the last house on Amber Bay as you head towards the forest. Although the trail isn't long, this length is just right for holidaymakers, especially those with small children. As you walk, you can not only enjoy the peace of the forest but also get to know the plants of Neringa: European silver fir, black alder, English oak and Norway spruce, sweet chestnut and barberry, as well as red oak, small-leaved linden, hornbeam and honeysuckle, bearberry, red elderberry, common sea buckthorn and pine. Along the trail there are sixteen stops with descriptions, drawings and photos of trees and shrubs, and information boards at the start and end of the route. At the start of the trail, don't miss the nearby Griekų dauba hollow. A huge linden once grew here, but the Germans cut it down before the war; today a newly planted linden grows in its place. Look out for the sign and you'll find it. Further along you can discover not only Neringa's old-growth forest but also a real oak grove halfway along the trail. The trail ends near the Juodkrantė cemetery.
