A funicular that has been running since 1935 will take you up to this viewpoint, from where you can see not only the “longest” bridge in the world but also the smiling sundial on the wall of the Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty – and the panorama of the Old Town from Aleksotas Hill will certainly make you fall in love with Kaunas. Right after the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in March 2011, pupils of the Aleksotas Jurgis Dobkevičius Progymnasium set about making gifts for their Japanese peers. As a sign of support, the Kaunas children also planted a small pine tree next to their school, which grows surrounded by the warmth of the community. You will find the pine next to the Aleksotas viewpoint.
